Shavkat Mirziyoyev: We must make urban public transport convenient, affordable, safe
On June 1 last year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved a project for the construction of a road junction at the intersection of Makhtumkuli Street and Ahangaran Highway in Tashkent.
Today the works enter their final phase.
The road junction has a unique engineering solution and will consist of three levels. Under construction are a tunnel with a length of 502 meters along the Ahangaran Highway, a 411-meter-long viaduct on Makhtumkuli Street, and two overpasses with a length of 29 meters each on the ring intersection of streets.
The creation of these facilities will help ensure non-stop traffic and unloaded road. Commissioning is scheduled for September this year.
The President was also provided with information on the progress of construction of the Tashkent over-ground metro ring. The assembly of the loop with a total length exceeding 52 kilometers is carried out in five stages. A line is currently being built from the Dustlik underground metro station to the Kuylik Marketplace.
“Most of the residents and visitors use public transport. However, its convenience is far from ideal. People are unhappy about this. Housing construction is in full swing across the city, and the capital itself is developing and will keep progressing. With this in mind, we must make urban public transport convenient, affordable, safe,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev suggested.
The head of state called on the officials to integrate flawlessly the elevated line under construction with the Tashkent subway metro system and bus routes, further enhance the ease of use of public transport, taking into account its load parameters.
