Uzbekistan to host the first Central Asia-European Union Summit

On April 3-4, the events of the first Central Asia-European Union summit will be held in the city of Samarkand.
The summit, which will be chaired by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, will be attended by the President of the European Council António Costa, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The event, held under the motto "Investing in the Future", is also expected to be attended by the heads of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.
In accordance with the agenda, the prospects for the development of multifaceted relations and practical cooperation between the states of Central Asia and the European Union will be considered.
The focus is on expanding investment cooperation and increasing trade, promoting joint programs and cooperation projects in the field of innovation, green energy, mining, agriculture, transport, logistics and digitalization, continuing active exchanges in the field of culture, tourism, science, education and other priority areas.
The heads of delegations will also exchange views on topical aspects of international and regional politics.
In accordance with the program, the leaders of the Central Asian states and the heads of the main EU institutions will jointly take part in the plenary session of the Samarkand International Climate Forum, which will begin on April 4.
In addition, it is planned to hold a number of bilateral meetings of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the heads of foreign delegations on the sidelines of the summit.
