The President of Uzbekistan met with the Head of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe

On April 4, within the framework of the Samarkand Climate Forum program, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, met with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Tatiana Molchan.
At the beginning of the conversation, the distinguished guest conveyed sincere greetings and warm wishes from the UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the President of Uzbekistan.
The President emphasized the key role of the Commission in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, as well as the expert support provided in areas such as transport, innovation, the textile industry, energy, ecology, gender equality, and Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization.
The discussion focused on the implementation aspects of regional and national projects, as well as the practical promotion of initiatives proposed by the President of Uzbekistan at the first summit of the Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) in Baku in November 2023.
The adoption of the Concept of SPECA Development until 2030, proposed by Uzbekistan, the signing of a "roadmap" with the EEC to simplify trade procedures, and the consistent implementation of measures for digitization and document exchange within the Trans-Caspian corridor were highlighted with satisfaction.
Earlier this year, with the Commission's assistance, Uzbekistan joined the Aarhus Convention on access to reliable information about the state of the environment.
The country is also working on joining the Air Convention and the Convention on Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents.
The importance of the swift launch of the SPECA Program’s Targeted Fund was underscored.
