President: Conscientiousness of people should be key pillar in countering the pandemic
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has held a video session with executives, including local officials. The head of state once again dwelled on the situation around the coronavirus pandemic in Uzbekistan.
The number of cases of COVID-19 infection in the country has exceeded 15 thousand. As a result of the measures taken, more than 8 thousand people have recovered. Unfortunately, the virus has claimed the lives of nearly 80 citizens.
“The situation remains grave. Therefore, no regional official has the right to indulge in calmness, thinking that their region is in a good state of affairs. Shortcomings are omnipresent. The critical task is their timely identification, objective assessment and immediate actions to eliminate them,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev insisted. “We must not forget the proverb “You conceal the disease, fever will give out,” which accurately characterizes the case with the coronavirus. If we are indifferent to this misfortune, we will endanger the health and fate of thousands of people, and the situation will get even worse. The worst thing is that the number of deaths will rise sharply.”
The head of state in his previous speeches noted the need to radically change the strategy and tactics of combating the pandemic. Expounding on this issue today, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the most powerful, most effective means should be used that meet the current conditions of the pandemic.
“In this struggle, the public and private medical systems, all institutions must be mobilized and they should work effectively, while the dedication of doctors, the consciousness of our people must be our major backbone,” the President continued. “Only by acting promptly, in a state of constant mobilization, with iron discipline, high medical culture and consciousness can we fight this evil effectively.”
The greatest responsibility in the fight against the pandemic rests with hokims and sector chiefs, the President reiterated at this meeting, too. They must have complete and accurate information about the current situation in the territories entrusted to them, which must be updated every day, every hour.
“Hokims, heads of sectors, all responsible persons and officials must work clearly and without mistakes, day and night, like a clockwork mechanism,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev declared. “Unfortunately, it is in this aspect that we often face problems. Due to the lack of accurate information and substantiated analytical materials, our decisions rarely bear expected results. Just tell me what kind of help you need in this matter, and we will resolve any issue. Because the goal is one and the same: we need to thwart this infection as soon as possible and completely restore our economy and social life.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the people again and stated in particular:
“Every one of us should beware of the fact that, first of all, we ourselves are responsible both for our own health and that of our families and children. In this regard, I ask our deputies, representatives of the creative intelligentsia, respected journalists, local activists: the pandemic requires that we bolster our work to promote the idea of personal responsibility of everyone.
“When will we overcome the pandemic? When everyone overwhelms carelessness in themselves, when we take a more responsible attitude towards our life, the fate of our family and children, the life of our entire nation.
“Are we capable of furthering this? Definitely. I am convinced that such senses and views that the current situation demands of us will deeply penetrate the hearts and minds of every our compatriot. And we will definitely cope with this test with dignity,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev concluded.
On July 15, the President slammed the state of work to combat the pandemic in the capital and Tashkent region, and specific tasks were set. Today, hokim of the city of Tashkent, the Prosecutor General and other responsible executives reported on the efforts undertaken on this front.
