Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the SCO Member States
On May 13, 2020, an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the SCO Member States was held via videoconference.
At the meeting, heads of foreign affairs agencies of India, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, China and Uzbekistan, as well as the SCO Secretary-General and the Director of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure discussed cooperation in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Views were exchanged on the urgent tasks of combating the consequences of coronavirus and mitigating its impact on the socio-economic development of the SCO countries.
The importance of coordinating the efforts of the SCO Member States to develop and implement necessary measures to combat the epidemic was emphasized. The parties noted the need for further development of cooperation in healthcare and activation of the work of the existing SCO mechanisms. Special attention was paid to issues of trade and economic cooperation in terms of major changes in the global economy after the pandemic.
Issues of peace consolidation in Afghanistan, assistance in economic recovery and development of social infrastructure were considered at the meeting.
Participants of the event congratulated each other on the 75th Anniversary of the Victory in World War II. The feasible contribution of brave warriors, home front workers to saving the world from fascism was noted. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Kamilov informed the participants about the development and implementation in the country of a special program for the wide celebration of this significant date.
Following the meeting, a Protocol of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the SCO Member States in connection with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic was adopted.
